In the class, we discussed American family styles. American students insisted there are many different styles such as adoption and binuclear family. Also, America is one of higer rate of devorce countries. One of American students said that it is not good for children. Moreover, we talked about the U.S. universities. They asked CESL students the difference between our country and the U.S. one. Some students told us there are no exams to enter the university in her country. On the contrast, In Korea, China, and Japan, they have to take exams. In other words, they don't focus on students' high school class works, such as GPA. In addition, American students mentioned, "There are many students who can't graduate because of finance problems ,even though there are a lot of scholarship systems in the U.S." I knew that to graduate university is so harder than in Japan.

More interesting things kept coming during the discussion in the culture through media class. We have discussed many important subjects, such as women`s right. All of us have agreed about that a woman and man should be equal, but according to our daily life they are not. I surprised when my classmate Alyssa who is American young woman confirmed the same opinion about woman and man because we in eastern believe that woman and man in western countries are almost equal. This subject led us to talk about increasing rate of divorce. No one has said any reason for increasing rate of divorce, but all of us noted this increase. About this subject, I have mentioned that after revolutionary satellite television, television and movies keep presenting beautiful people which makes many people look for getting married to people exactly like that they have seen in movies or television. My classmate disagreed with this idea. Interesting subject was religion; the question that has been asked is if you have son or girl who decided to believe in religion which is different from what you believe, will you allow him? All of us thought it will be difficult situation. This agreement taught me that there is no difference between people around the world. It does not matter where you are from or from where descended. The great thing that I taught in this class we have same feelings and ideas.

A lot of different interesting issues grabbed the group’s attention in the gathering. We talked about how Americans deal with different religions and how they respect them. Another interesting subject is that US citizens don't like to talk about policy. Instead, they care more about jobs and their lives. However, the thing that we liked most is abortion, we discussed the evil side of humanity al of the members of my group were astonished of some people's action regarding abortion and how they look at this issue. We all agreed that abortion is immoral and people should be aware that they have no control over the lives. A lot of different interesting issues grabbed the group’s attention in the gathering. during the meeting, we were talking about what kind of city do you like in the United States. Two American partners had not gone to east and west part of the U.S. but my other group members who are CESL students, they traveled a lot. they had been to California, New York City and Florida. For me, I also had been to many cities, such as New York City, Boston, Washington DC and Chicago.but I never went to the east part of the U.S. Also, we are talking about the holiday in our country. In China, the Chinese new year is a really important holiday.It just look like Christmas in the U.S. during the Chinese new year. all the family members would get together. the children really like it because they can receive lots of gifts. On the other hand, I learned most of their holidays are related to the religion but Chinese holidays are not.

In this time, We talked about how will we celebrate Halloween because the Halloween is coming soon. The Americans, who are from the SIU, said they will dress up and go to the party, and also talked about when they was children, they would go around their neighbor to get some candy. In China, we do not have Halloween this kind of holiday. so I am really interested about that. When I asked them are you guys interested going to haunted house? they were really excited, they really wanted to go, but they felt scard. For me, Halloween this kind of holiday is from western countries, we do not celebrate it except Hong Kong and Macau, I hope I can look like them to dress up and go to the party to have fun. And maybe I will go to haunted house in St.Louis with my friends.I think that will be a lot of fun.

The meeting with American students and people from other country was very useful. We were seven members in this group. We met seven times, and we talked about different topics. Therefore I learned many things regarding the culture and society.
The most interesting subject was about the holidays in the United States, and how the holidays are different from my country. For example there are several holidays in the last for three months. Halloween holyday is masquerade and how American people celebrate in this day by wearing strange dresses. In addition to that there is Thanks giving holyday in November and in the mid of December to the mid of January, there are Christmas holiday. People in Christmas holiday also celebrate in New Year and prepare and eat special meals. Also we talked about the relationship between the families and their relatives. Some people live with their relative in same region, while other live alone, also there are interesting thing regarding the kinds, when they grew up they separate, and far from their parents.
In addition to that we talked about the women in American society, how they work in different fields and share the men in all jobs. Also women can employ in a high position in the government. Also we talked about the pets, because most American people have pets in their home. Some people prefer to have dogs while the other likes cats. So now I feel that I know more about American society also I got much information about American people life.

I learned many things from the meeting with American students this course. There are 8 members in my group, 6 CESL students and 2 American students. We spend six interesting weeks talking about several things and comparing between American cultures and other cultures.
There are five interesting things I learned which I considered the most interesting things. First, the types of food in America are different from the types of food in Middle East and China. The Pizza and fast food are the common foods in U.S. while there are different foods like rice, Chinese food, and Spicy foods. Second, the Weeding and its preparations are different. In America both families share the money spend in the weeding while in Middle East and china the man should pay every thing. Third, getting the visa of America is hard in some countries like Venezuela, while it's easy in some other countries. Fourth, Holidays in America is more than holidays in other countries. Some of these holidays are Thanksgiving Day, Easter day, Halloween, Memorial Day, and Christmas. Fifth, the family members in America are sometimes consisted from a single dad or a single mom or both of them, but this situation is rarely found in other countries.
In addition, we spend the last week talking about travelling, Funny movies, Religious things. It was very interested to know each members idea about these things.
In conclusion, The Culture through Media class is helped me to meet Americans and learn from them, also it is important to mention that I learned some of these things from other CESL members who are from different countries.

This week, our group had 6 people; we talked in the classroom. In this final lesson, I had learnt more about Arabic culture. In the past, I didn’t know why the women had to wear the scarf. More importantly, some of them will cover their face, but some are not. Therefore, I asked Sultar about these questions.
As she said, wearing scarf is an old custom in Arabic country. The women are not allowed to show their body. Such as face. Expect for the women’s family and other women can see their face, other people can’t see. However, it made me to come up a question: how can they cut their hair or swim in the pool? I made a mistake because in Arabic country, male and female are separated in two different schools. In addition, there were many haircut shops for women. Obviously, I had learnt the Arabic people are very serious about sexuality. Then I got another question, how can they choose their love one? Sultar told me that it depended on different families; some male’s family will introduce their son to female’s family. However, only the female had power to decide if the marriage is suitable or not.
In addition, some guys in my group asked me who is the most popular star in Chinese eyes? I would say: Bruce Li. He is the most famous GongFu star in Chinese eyes because in the past, many foreigners looked down upon us. Bruce Li used his power to confirm that Chinese are not weak. He not only encouraged Chinese people, but also changed the view of Chinese people.
In conclusion, in culture media class, it provides an opportunity for me to talk to foreign people, to know their countries and cultures, and to learn more things. I really appreciate that I take this lesson because it is helpful for me. Thanks！

Yesterday was the best hour ever. We discussed different subjects such as Halloween, UFOs, taxes, government corruption, some hand signs, deer hunting, and others. However, the subject that grabbed our attention was different of what I stated. Have you heard of scientology? Probably not, it is a new religion and some celebrities believe it like Tom Cruise. They believe that aliens originated us humans. As they believe that aliens came to earth and created us long time ago. Xenu is the name the alien who created us along with other lives. The most interesting thing about their story is that we were so corrupted and they gathered us in a volcano. Then, they killed all humans by bombs and took the spirits of the people with them to their place to do reformation to their souls. After the aliens reformed their spirits by watching movies, they brought back to earth. Someday they will come back to take us, as they think. Another interesting thing about them is that they do not pay taxes, may be just because they are poor. That was really interesting to know for us, and all of the members were astonished.

We talked about "discussion style" each country. Compared to Japan, most Americans eager to speak during the class. If the person talks a lot in the discussion, an other person will be annoyed with him/her because they can't have enough time to speak. On the contrust, most people don't want to speak in Japan, so we don't be angry with people who talk a lot in the discussion, because other people don't need to talk. Also, there aren't a lot of oppotunities to talk in front of people. Therefore Japanese aren't used to that. Moreover, through the difference, I knew the differeces of personality between American and Japanese.

This class was very useful; it offers a good opportunity for us to talk with American people. We spend most the time in this class by talking about different topics. So I have learned many things, especially about American society, the relationships between the family and the relatives and how the young boys become independent after the age 18 and he can live alone , also about the relationship between the boys and the girls especially in the school. We talked about the education in the United States, and the student should pay for their school or sometimes they can get student’s loans. Also we talked the hobbies and the sport games, and I learned that Football game and Basketball are so popular among Americans people and that completely different comparing to my country.

This class was a great opportunity for me to know more not only about Americans, but also about other cultures. Such as, Chinese, Koreans, and Japanese. First thing that I have learned is that there are not big differences between people around the world. When I compare between my culture and what people believe in my country and what my classmates mentioned, I find people are almost similar. For example, we have discussed the possibility for getting married to someone who has different culture and religion, and I discovered every one of my classmates has his won opinion which does not based on his culture but based on what he believes
I was surprising when I had known that American students do not study for many hours per the day which means they are so smart. I have learned does not matter what you believe the matter is who you are. I think this seems a little different from Arabic culture; the religion is very important for Arabic.

I get many benefits from speech class that discuss the American culture such as the US holidays, laws, communication styles, families, and education style.
The US has many religious and culture holidays such as Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas. For example, Christmas is a religious holiday. It is a holiday observed mostly on December 25 to commemorate the birth of Jesus. Christens celebrate during this holidays and give their children gifts. Another most important holiday is the Independence Day, commonly known as of the fourth July, is the national day of the United States. It is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. It is commonly associated with fireworks, picnics, concerts, family reunions, political speeches. Another holiday is Labor Day which is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September. Also, the first Labor Day in the United States was observed on September 5, 1878, in Boston, by the Central Labor Union of New York. Another one is, Halloween is an annual holiday observed on October 31. The common Halloween activities include treating, wearing costumes , visiting haunted houses, and watching horror movies. Another holiday is Thanksgiving Day which is a harvest festival celebrated primarily in the United States . Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for the harvest and express gratitude in general. People always meet their families and eat the Turkey, which is the famous meal in this holiday.
The most interesting thing about the US laws is that each state has different laws because states are considered like countries. Also, nationals pay different taxes and how much they pay which depend on the state loans from the governments. Moreover, each one has special staff that controls it such as mayor.
Another topic is the American communication styles. They are very different from other cultures. For example, in the American communication styles, people must keep specific distance and a man can shake hands with a woman. Also, they always focus on the main ideas and some important details that help them to understand the others. Also, they depend on facts and support them by much evidence.
Another topic is the types of families. The US, as other more develop countries, has many types of family such as nuclear family, single parent family, extended family, and childless family. The nuclear consists of a mother and father. It is the most common in the US because it can be a nurturing environment to raise children if there is love, devoted time to children, emotional support, low stress, and stable economic environment. In nuclear families, both parents are the biological or adoptive parents of their children. Moreover, there are three types of married nuclear families depending on employment status of the woman and man, for example, the husband works outside home while his wife works inside the home caring for the children. Also, in the second type of married nuclear family, wife works outside home and her husband cares for the children. Moreover, the third kind of married nuclear family, both wife and husband work outside the home or are income providers. In some situations, the woman might have a home-based business, such as a day care center. However, in Saudi Arabia, extended family is the most common .It may include parents, children, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Also, I told my American partners who tend to be extended families and they think it is very useful for many reasons. It helps raise children, supports for an ill relative, or helps with financial problems. Sometimes children are cared by their grandparents when their biological parents died or no longer can take care of them. Many grandparents take some primary responsibility for child care, particularly when both parents work.
Another topic is the difference between the US and Saudi Arabia in the education system. The education system in the US is more different from that in Saudi education system for many reasons. The education system in US cares for many things such as students, teachers, environment, technology, knowledge, and experience. Also, parents, students, community members, governments always evaluate it. Moreover, it focuses on the information that related to the student lives. In addition, the most important thing is that every school is provided with many recreation facilities such as gams, playgrounds, and trips. However, the Saudi education system depends on the knowledge as the primary way to evaluate students without any relation to their lives. In conclusion, the Culture Media provides me good information about American culture.

My group consists of seven respectable, intelligent, educated, and funny members. We usually spend the hour with Derreck and Elizabeth in the classroom. Due to the huge differences in cultures, we find social issues grabs and education grabs our attention. Two social differences we enjoyed talking about were the most shocking to me. One is that Americans do not get married to any of their relatives. Group members showed surprise expression when they know that and so did I. Relatives in the US are like friends and no more. We are not like that in Saudi Arabia and that what makes us surprised. The other thing is that living with your parents after the age of eighteenth is considered to be shameful. I noticed that actually before coming to USA through the movies, but I wanted to see if it is confined to some people or not.

In this week, there are 7 people in our group. We talked about American family, Chinese food, and Arabic’s marriage interview in the classroom. In my opinion, I think these three topics would be interesting to others. First, Samantha told us something about American family. For example, most children don’t like to live with their parents after they grow up. Also the female and male are equal, which means they have same right in every area. However, it is different in China. As my family, my grandfather doesn’t need to anything in the house. His duty is only “eat,” drink, and watch the News. My father is the same. Besides. I told my group members a situation: Nowadays, some young Chinese girl watch too much Korean love move, we called “soap movie.” All of these movies talk about how a poor girl meets a rich guy. Poor girl does not need to do anything, because she will “buy” many servants for her.
In addition, we discuss about Arabic’s marriage interview. As Ahmed said: when two families have marriage interview, the man do not have right to decide marriage, but his mother or sister has. If they are married, it will have three wedding parties: to invite woman or man’s family, and to invite their important friends and a few family members.
Finally, I know some of our group members really like Chinese food, so I simply introduce some famous food to them. For example, Chicken is one of popular food in China. Every festival, most of us will cook the chicken in different tastes: soy sauce, salted, roasted, stewing, and fry. All of these are basic. If you go to the restaurant, you may have more tastes. Canton not only is an economic city, but also is a “food” city. The real Chinese food is much better than here. If people visit China for eat, I suggest they go to Canton, southern of China. It will surprise you.

The First Wonderful Speaking Class
Since I came to CESL, I hope to have a speaking class in which we can communicate with native speakers. This year my hope became real, so I was very happy and interested to have this class. The last Thursday was the first speaking class that was very interesting. During the class, there were many groups and in our group, there were nine members; two native speakers, three Saudis and three from Japan, Korea and China. At that time, we discussed many issues such as gender differences, school system, some American cities and using different ways of communication with friends. The most interesting was different school systems from a country to a country. In America, there are differences between public and private school in terms of uniform; a few public schools have the formal uniform, but students in private schools should have the same uniform. In Korea, the school system nearly is the same as American school system. But in Saudi Arabia, the system is diiferent; student should have the same uniform nevertheless the kinds of school. In addition, we had different opinions about using internet to communicate with friends; most of us said that facebook is the best and others said that skype and hotmail are the best. Moreover, I learned some American cultures, especially formality when speaking to strangers that is very different from our country. That day was wonderful, but class length was very short.

According to the article, the NATO will help Afghan to create local forces that are easy to fight with Taliban. This kind of force will release the NATO’s army stress. The U.S. army will train local forces to protect their communities by themselves. These forces must belong to the government. Opinion
This is good for NATO and Afghan government, because NATO will not send a lot of armies to Afghan, and the Afghan government can easy to flight Taliban in some small towns with out NATO’s help. Therefore, many small towns use their power to get the peace by themselves. A lot of NATO’s armies can go back to their counties. On the other hand, the NATO and Afghan government should avoid these local forces help Taliban to fight NATO’s armies, because it is easy to happen some places.

The number of countries still thinks how to do carbon-trading scheme with many developing countries that cannot deal with the problem. People need paying attention overpopulation. There are a lot of places has not enough resources to supply because of too much people. People must sacrifice some present advantages in order to insure to itself future ones.

In his article, Canty talks about the argument about people's view of the legitimacy of California's marriage clause. Some people say don't have to totally accept it in our daily live, but we can work to make some changes and support, claim and protect the special groups. My opinion:

I think the marriage of same gender can be accepted. You can't say the love between people with the same gender is not true love, no matter same gender or not, if they have true love, they can get married as they want. In terms of same-sex marriage are unfit for the procreation, I think they can adopt a child if they really love children, but in my opinion, if two same-sex people have decided to get married, they must have already made up their mind that they don't want any children.

Obama promised that he is going to help middle class families. His proposal didn't jobs however what he could do is to lower tax and offer loans. He mentioned that he is going to start running with small businesses. He make sure that those who cannot go to universities,are offered loans and have to pay back only after they get jobs. There is evidence of effects of global warming in my country because the average of the maximum temperature in the Littoral region of the country a year ago was 31 degrees centigrade, but now if is around 36 degrees Celsius. There are some occurrences of marine storms that we usually call calemas, which have become more and more violent and erosive. Moreover, we observed during the rain season much more quantity of rains than meteorologists expected, and more than what happened 10 or 20 years ago. On the shoreline, it is clear to see strong erosion marks against rocks, houses destroyed, soil eroded and bridge damages. These could be effects of sea level rising and wind increasing along of the coast. Another kind of evidence we have been identifying is increase of ravines in many places main in the interior. Flooding have been frequent, in the urban areas for example, the cities located in the plateau. The government has constructed new channels to evacuate the water from cities caused by rains. Furthermore, Angola has a variety of geographic settings, including desert that is known as the Namibe desert, where desertification has take place so fast. In this area the government and environmentalists organized campaigns for people engaged in the replanting processes. Even though the government has been making a lot of efforts, the situation has become worse due to the climate change. In conclusion, global warming is a global problem, so it will affect all of us wherever we are; therefore, our participation as environmentalists for saving the environment is urgent and very important.

Currently, it is important to have adequate comprehension that human activity has been the main risk to harm the environment. Furthermore, population grows faster causing widespread environment degradation. However, there are people who think that CO2 emission is more dangerous to the planet than we thought, and we have to make an urgent decision, but there are others who think that we can deal with risk because there is scientific knowledge to justify it. Carbon dioxide emission has been the principal cause of global warming because it is produced in the greatest quantity. Because of the high temperature caused by global warming, it will cause sea level rising, change in precipitation, reduction or extinction of many species and agricultural problems. Then, rising sea levels would flood economic infrastructure in coasts, and coral reefs, and wetlands will be destroyed. Droughts, dries, hurricanes and typhoons will be common in many areas. Human health alters disease and disrupt in biodiversity, causing extinction of species and appearance of new species. This could result in a tragedy for humans and the planet. Consequently, what should we do facing the threat of global warming ? This is the issue. There is the fastest, cheapest and most effective way to reduce carbon dioxide and other pollutant emissions into the atmosphere. It is logical to begin greenhouse emissions to where consumption occurs; therefore, we start from the household carbon footprint. In order to make a household cooperate to reduce carbon footprint, we have increase the energy efficiency of automobiles, houses and appliances, thus reducing the output of the CO2. According to Obama’s proposal, “promote green technologies and fuel efficiency standard ” (Obama, 2007). I will describe how to make household closely to green planet. Finally, I will explain that household can reduce carbon dioxide by increase energy and technology efficiency on cars, house and appliances.

Wikipedia is widely used by people of different backgrounds, ages and purposes around the world. Many people consider Wikipedia an important tool for knowledge and as competent editor because they can find information necessary for their goal. Did you realize that? There are many students who use Wikipedia for academic purposes, and they think that they will be excellent in overall subjects of studies. However, the students should not be allowed to use Wikipedia because is not peer reviewed data for academic research, academic sources and for content.

Students are not recommended to use Wikipedia for academic research because the information is not approved for peer review, so it is not accurate and lack of credibility. The information is written and has an edited for anyone because it is a popular website and it is easy to access to the database. Because the information is not recognized or evaluated by experts, they are exposed to free availability and present weaknesses. Moreover, many sources are not cited in Wikipedia. For example, students need to integrate knowledge and scientific methods to develop research. Thus they will be able to learn research skill and to get the opportunity for finding the logic. Meredith Byers quotes Don Wyatt, Chairman of the Department, as saying that Wikipedia is not an accurate source for students’ research (2007).

Wikipedia should not be an academic source for students because the material is not verified or assessed by experts. There is insufficiency on variety and quality of data. Furthermore, many articles are not organized or comprehensive. Many articles are not supported by source and contain grammatical errors. In fact they need a competent editor with professional capacity and experience. The Wikipedia database is frequently in transformation; for instance, the data used for writing a research paper could not be the same version when you finish the research. On the contrary, sometimes the data are not updated, so cannot be used as principal source. According to Edward Bilodeau, “As for Wikipedia, I would agree that, for a variety of reasons, it is probably not a proper source for academic work. Many professors would not accept an encyclopedia entry as a citation in a paper, regardless of which encyclopedia it came from. Some might accept it as a source of a definition, perhaps, but in those cases, it would have to be an encyclopedia recognized in that field. Wikipedia, in a general sense, wouldn’t make the grade” (2008, para.8).

Wikipedia has a limited contend and deficient quantity on a variety of topics. For example, there are many changes in fields such as art, science, politics, history, technology and so on, but the specific topic inside the field of science is poor quality in context of content and diversity. We are not contradicted to say that it is negative to permit users generating content. This is the reason that Wikipedia has been criticized as not very good quality learning material due to inconsistency and imperfection in specialization of topics. According to Jason Wolverton, “it is not the number of articles available on Wikipedia that is up for debate, though. The argument amongst scholars is that the information available on Wikipedia is not necessarily accurate and that the articles themselves are particularly susceptible to internet vandalism” (2007, para.11).

Many people say that Wikipedia has succeeded because it has an advantage compared to other sources of references, and it has coverage by large number of writers, editors, and readers accessible in many languages. Moreover, many people can work at some time on one document. The opposing idea is irrelevant because Wikipedia has been provided more internet coverage than books published. Wikipedia made in books are not located in different parts of the world; also the internet has a disadvantage in terms of durability of data that is constantly changing. For example, we can save and conserve the same information in a book for a long time.
In conclusion, Wikipedia is not an appropriate source of good quality learning material for students in academia, or in specific content areas. Even though, it has a global coverage and free availability, It is inconsistent for research skill, has insufficient content in a variety of topics and is absent credibility in its database.

Global warming is unavoidable and there are people who think that we can deal with risk because there is scientific knowledge to justify it. Furthermore, people are more concerned about reducing weight than saving the planet. What we can do as an individual to promote environmental sustainability? Have we already thought about being responsible? Honestly, have we decided to know how much carbon footprint we spend? However, we can inspire a household to be environment friendly, replacing slowly, improving in energy and efficiency in automobiles and appliances, houses and industries, thus reducing its carbon emission to the atmosphere.

A household can reduce its gas emission using energy and technology efficiency in cars. Worldwide emissions depending on carbon dioxide from fuel combustion have been rising for many years. Moreover, carbon dioxide emissions depend on the carbon content of the fuels. Using more efficient cars and power plants, people save money and reduce gas emission. For example, if people a car that is technically and energy-efficient, it can help reduce vehicle fuel consumption and increase mileage. For example, as hybrid cars use clean fuel which incorporates fuel cells that combine stored hydrogen with oxygen from the air to produce electricity. People might use motor vehicles that are inexpensive, safe, and can drive a long distance without the need to refill. Another example is Barack Obama on environment: “When I announced my proposal to increase fuel efficiency standards on cars, I went to Detroit in front of the automakers and said they had to change their ways ” (2009, para.x). These can result in friendly environment.

Homes of the energy efficient construction can consume less energy for heating, cooking and heating water and guide us to save money. Houses should improve building systems promoting environmental construction, providing their designers and manufactures with solar home panels, for instance to install at home photovoltaics panel to generate energy that can pump water, refrigerate, charge batteries and supply homes with lighting. The solar energy systems are more efficient because they concentrate sun energy, cost less expensive and have environmental benefit. In addition, some energy improvement can be made in older homes to reduce heating and cooling cost. A green house is better protected from cold, heat, moisture, pollution and noise. Green buildings provide, environmental, ecological and social sustainability.

The increasing technology and efficiency will help to reduce in industries energy consumption and environment degradation. Industries with high CO2 emission that contribute to global warming, acid precipitation and other environmental problems is possible to separate carbon dioxide produced during the combustion of fossil fuels and then isolate it from the atmosphere. For example, factories can use cogeneration, which is one energy technology with a bright future which is a combination of heat and power. This system can enable hospitals, hotels, restaurants, factories and others business to use less energy. Using solar, wind, biomass, and other forms of renewable energy is the goal to reduce gas emission. The government should incorporate regulations for having low emission rate and increase the competitive pressure to change to renewable energy.

Some people say that homeowners have to pay lot of money to installing renewable energy sources. The systems can be expensive to purchase and install and they provide electricity only intermittently, when weather conditions permit, but during unfavorable conditions residents must purchase electricity from their local utility. The argument is irrelevant because the system permits homeowners to produce their own energy to a “net meter” Their electricity consumer saves money while contributing to a cleaner environment. Furthermore, the government gives many tax credits which are accessible to consumers to improve their homes’ energy efficiencies.

I spend a lot of time on you tube, because I want to follow latest Japanese entertainments on You Tube. Have you ever spent more than 5 hours on You Tube? Sometimes I’m focus on You Tube, and I feel time goes by so fast. It’s a kind of addictive You Tube. Actually, I never use it for searching information. I just use it for fun. What kind of film clips do you watch as usual? I watch Japanese comedy mostly, then, sometimes I listen to music, but it’s from all Japanese culture. I think that it’s not good to improve my English skill, however, I really miss my culture and comedy, because I’m in U.S. right now. That’s why I spend a lot of times on You Tube. Say in other words, You Tube is the only one amusement which I can touch latest Japanese topics such as entertainment, music, comedy, and drama. On the other hand, I have to use it for studying. There are a lot of useful materials for studying English. I must found them out, and I have to use not only having fun but also studying English. Anyway, You Tube has infiltrated many aspects of our daily life. We would spend a lot of time on You Tube also from now on.

What do you think about using the Wikipedia is useful for our studying or not, especially academic fields? According to some articles about the Wikipedia, it has both advantages and disadvantages. I think that it should not be used in academic field because in these fields, students have to study more specific and figure out themselves. However, sometimes we need it as resources, but too much depending on this site makes us to never consult for studying (Byers, 2007, para. 2). However, in fact, “Launched Jan. 15, 2001, it is already the ninth most popular Web site in the United States, according to Alexa Internet, a company that monitors Web Traffic” (Wolverton, 2007, para. 9). Do you know this fact? Actually, It has become popular more than I expected. If students become addicted of the Wikipedia, they would depend on it every day. Therefore, they might not think themselves. Moreover, especially academic fields need special knowledge. I think that only the Wikipedia couldn’t cover all academic fields.

First, in academic fields, we shouldn’t use the Wikipedia mainly, but we can use it as part of resources. If we use it too much, there will be no our opinions and arguments, also; everyone might take same answers and opinions. It is kind of boring, and it is not valuable for our studying. At first, we try to find our answers, then, we can retrieve some resources from the Wikipedia. Recognizing our opinions and resources from Web site make our study more interesting and exciting. I it has big mean toward well.

Second, in fact, according to Wolverton (2007), the Wikipedia , Web site, has been used increasingly common all over the world, especially the United States (Wolverton, 2007, para. 9). This result indicates that many students in the United States use this Web site for their studying, hobby and so on. If they use it too much, they will not consult about their studying any more, also; they would be lazy or addictive about Web information such an s Wikipedia. Then it will be apprehensive a drop in scholastic ability.

Third, by the academic field, especially university, we need more special knowledge than on Web site’s it. I think knowledge on Web site is not enough to write and study for academic reports and papers. We have to find out more specific and more unique resources from many journals, books, and newspapers, not only Web site. Otherwise, we can’t cover academic field. “ It found that Americans aged 25 to 34 in the sample named Wikipedia as the second most credible source business information, after business magazines” (Gapper, 2008, para. 9). This mean is not first resource for business. It shows opinion same as me.

However, the Internet has infiltrated many aspects of our daily life. Also, we can get much information on the Web site whatever we want. The Internet helps us as useful information tools. Therefore, it helps our studying very well, and we can absorb a lot of knowledge widely from the Internet. When we can’t find answers from books that really I want to know, we can get answers easily from the Internet such as the Wikipedia. We just put some key words on the search box, then, the computer will be searched easily. We can save the time to study.

In conclusion, I refer that the Wikipedia sometimes works good for us. For instance, we can save the time to study, and we can get answers easily. However, conversely to put it the other way around, it has risk to be addicted about using the Internet resources. We should use the Wikipedia carefully. Then the Internet might help us very well, and our grade might be gone up some day.

Essay-writing in my country is very different from the United States. Firstly, we don’t have any rights or rules about using outside resources. There is no “three words rule” with Chinese writers. It is free to use anyone’s article resources if you don’t copy the whole original articles. Even though someone might copy the idea and paraphrase from others without putting the author’s name and date of publication, it is acceptable. Of course, we don’t need to put references. Indeed, in the educational essay-writing in school, teachers allow students to use other authors words and a few sentences to help their essay; nobody will care about where, whose and when the resources you use. Besides, it is not popular to use websites for essay-writing in China. In addition, Chinese students don’t have as many writing papers as America schools do. Actually, I am not good at Chinese essays on even English writing. Generally, Chinese education is too rigid. The students achieve the knowledge only depending on the books, and follow the teacher’s idea. For these reasons, Chinese students are not as flexible in essay-writing as American writers.

In my case, I am not good at writing; there is not too much knowledge about facts or news in my mind. When I write an essay, I am so helpless to gather the information for my essay. YouTube is an internet media site created to reproduce any kind of video clips; personally I do not spent much time looking for critical information in this media, but sometimes I have used it for specific purposes because I think that it can be used for useful information and also for entertainment.

In my country, I taught the Occupational Safety course and Process Improvement course for the Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Program. Both of these courses require visual aids to explain some concepts, give examples and improve the students’ understanding. In the case of Occupational Health, I have used many videos from YouTube to show to students different risks associated with labor, to show them how systems like sprinklers or fume detectors work and finally to show them natural and technological disasters that occurred around the world as part of the emergency preparedness module. This would not have been possible without YouTube’s help.

In the second case, in the Process Improvement subject, students are in their third semester and they are beginning to understand how industrial systems work and how products are made; for this reason I have used YouTube video clips to allow them to compare industrial processes in developed countries and industrial process in our country.

In my experience, YouTube has been a very useful free tool to give examples in classes and discuss them with the students. Nonetheless, you have to be careful about the information found because like other Internet media, anybody can put any video there including some that are only “trash”.

However, sometimes I have used YouTube as part of my entertainment. For instance, when I need to send songs or lyrics to my friends or simply when I want to watch some of the movies I prefer, for example, it has been very useful to find old movies like Modern Times or Indiana Jones that are difficult to obtain in current stores.

In reference to what kind of film clips I have reviewed, the majority has been related with occupational safety, labor diseases, emergencies and also, song videos, belly dance choreographies and old movies.

In CESL, essays and papers are very common things that have to be done everyday. Maybe it is hard to somebody in other countries, but it is easier to Chinese students because we have written a lot of essays and papers during out high school life and even in Chinese universities. I say it is easy because we have written every day, and the pages limited are not hard to us. However, we use a different type of writing skills. In America, essays are written by order and value. However, Chinese people use a lot of adjectives and written by cycle. They want the reader to know how perfect the paper is. But Americans only tell the truth, because they think a paper is not a novel, they do not have to write several adjectives, and also it is academic. I think it is really a big difference between a Chinese essay and an American one. Actually, I study in America already three years. At first, no body can know what I write in my paper because it looks like a poem or something else. After that, the only way I can do is just to keep my mind, telling the truth, using the American way to write an American essay, that is it. Now I really like to write essays and papers because it is really following the American writing style.

In my country there are different ways to write an essay, and the most common is the free style. People use this, because you are not under pressure to follow any rule. In this case, you can take different topics and write about them and all the pages desired. In addition, we do not use double space or indentation. If you want you can separate the text into paragraphs or not, in my country there are many writers who love to write but they do not have any specialized training in how to write books, essays, articles for newspaper and magazines, but they do. They have learned this in an empirical way by reading or a short training at school; for this reason the essay in my country does not demand to be written under certain rules. And the law requiring using of real names was created. Therefore, we have to use our real name online, not in private, but in public places. It doesn’t protect everything; however, it brought some positive changes.

Undoubtedly, regions or countries determine the way that you write academic papers. Another factor is how you have prepared to do that, by yourself or if you studied some kind of writing or something like that. But, from my point of view I think that the most important point to consider in this sort of project is the type of readers, who are the focus or target of your writing. In South America the people like to write around the topic. They are not going to the idea directly. They include unnecessary, complicated, and nice words. Finally, they attack the main points. For example, a journalist from some newspaper in the sport parts writes this kind of news, but the readers like it, because they want to spend time in it, maybe in hours of work or in the office. The big difference about this subject, essay writing, between the US and my country is that in the US, you need to consider plagiarism. Plagiarism is morally and legally forbidden. In Mexico, plagiarism is not considered a grave error. In my case, I never have written about this kind of essay, even though I have written other kinds of research papers. I have written scientific articles, in one of them as a main author, and in others of them as collaborator.

McDonald's food that includes a lot of animal fat and salt might cause adult disease. It is clear that over ingestion of food such as too much salt, sugar, and fat is known to be bad for our body and our health. Also, those foods can causes to gain weight quickly and easily, especially our stomach (Spurlock, 2004). Moreover, "in only thirty days of eating nothing but McDonald's I gained twenty-four and a half ponds, my liver turned to fat and my cholesterol shot up sixty-five points. My body fat percentage went from eleven to eighteen percent" (Spurlock, 2004, para. 11). Therefore, I mention that McDonald's is bad for our health.

The fast food, McDonald's, is very convenient for us to buy because we can eat easily and reasonable without waiting, and whether we want eat. As Kroc says, "we provide food that customers love, day after day after day. People just want more of it" (Kroc, 1995, para.17). Recently, McDonald's is keeping open during 24 hours. It has become more useful. Moreover, McDonald's is common food all over the world, because we can enjoy the same taste anywhere else. Animal in Jail

Yesterday before my kids went to the St. Louis Zoo with the ESL Unity Point School group, they couldn’t sleep because they were very exited to see animals. I think with no zoos we couldn’t see those different and various kinds of animals. Really I feel sad sometimes when I think about how those animals lose their freedom, but after deeply thinking about the benefits of keeping animals in the zoo, I changed my mind. I think if there were no zoos, people couldn’t see animals or feel happy when they watch them play or eat. Also, they couldn’t care for some kinds, which might become extinct, and keep them a live. And we can’t give our kids information about animals, which they can’t see, or touch some of which are amiable kinds. So, I don’t agree with those people who think that animals are staying in jail and I can say that it is a cage to keep them and there are employees to care of their health, food and protection.

Many people disagree with the idea to maintain animals in jail because it is unnatural, but other argues that it could be the only chance to save some species. In my opinion there are advantages and disadvantages about zoos.

The first advantage is that zoos recover animals that have been harmed by people, they make diagnostics and make the treatment required to have a healthy animal again; in other words, they save animals’ lives. Second, zoos are the best place to recover species from the extinction process, because they can find a couple of them and begin a large process and do research to achieve successful reproduction in captivity. Indeed, recent studies said that this could be the only chance for future generations to know some kind of species, and also could be the fastest way to avoid the future species’ extinction. Finally, I have listened to programs oriented to children and young people education. To do it, they use education and uncommon animals like camels, monkeys and bears that people can touch without danger, and they go to schools teaching what is their natural habitat, the importance of these species in the environment and why we should take care of them; at the same time people can interact with them and learn to love them.

On the other hand, I disagree with some conditions in zoos. On of them is the loss of natural habitat, because although many zoos try to recreate a natural environment, they do not achieve the same conditions of temperature, light and development in wildlife; as a consequence animals change their behavior. For example, some tigers and lions forget how to hunt, because they receive food all the time without any effort; other animals change their herding customs, because all the time they live with different kinds of animals. Finally, it is well known that in many cases animals are harmed by zoos’ internal personnel in order to achieve specific activities to show to the zoo’s visitors, this is the reason that many people don’t believe in zoos.

PC an IMac are coming to our daily lives; all we know is that it is important. We can use it to search for information of all kinds of majors; to play on-line games all day long; and to chat with our friends. In other words, computer is the most important thing in our lives right now.

How about children? Do we have to give children a laptop earlier in their lives? Yes, at the earlier age, they can easily to get information from computers or IMacs, and also PC or IMac can give them all the answers that they ask for. And they can be some step with other children who use computers at the same time. And also laptop is better than desktop, because it is easy to carry and it is really cool if you take it to school. Other children will be interested with your children, and they will communicate well. It is really a good sign for children growing well.

However, there are many possible problems that could occur. Firstly, it is not all countries that can afford the expenses. First, I want to state that there are some advantages about this programs. Recently, computer has become global standard all over the world. So, we have to learn how to use computers such as laptops and desktops. If people could learn it from early childhood, it will work as their advantage in the future, such as job hunting. In addition, laptop is a more important tool as a source of knowledge than a desktop itself, because we can take it whenever we want. When we were in the childhood, I had various curiosity about everything. I think modern children are also the same as me; so, laptops would help them as a useful material.

Next, I think laptops sometimes influence children badly because they can bring it somewhere. This means that we can watch Internet without parents' permission. If a child did net surfing on illegal sites, parents can't know the fact. I think there are many potential risks on these sites. Moreover, if children use computer too much, they will be addicted to computer, and they will not know how to make relationships with their friends.

Finally, I think it is better to use laptops in front of parents if you want to use them. It is clear a laptop is very valuable tool, but we should never forget that human relation is more important than spending too much time with a laptop, especially in childhood.

A laptop

A Laptop is a good thing that technology offers to us. I am interested in using my laptop anywhere, since I can do all my homework anytime and anywhere. On the contrary I am not interested in the programs that allow children to carry laptops, since if you gave your children laptops you will not sit with them all the time. Some of the children do not have consciousness to deal with the laptop. Also, there are some children who cannot use the laptop wisely and that may cause problems. For me and as a mother I do not allow my children to take the laptop and play with it by themselves. So, I pay attention to what they are watching; after they become aware how to use the laptop, I will give the freedom to them to use it. I disagree with that program that gives each child a laptop, and I think that all country should refuse that, because he may use it in a wrong way as I mentioned. Also, maybe the child will lose his time with no benefit; I mean spend a lot of time without doing anything except playing, for example. It is a good idea if there is control for kids, but many parents do not have time to watch their children all the time.

Animals in zoo

When I was a child, I went to the zoo almost every weekend.My father is good at taking pictures, especially of animals. I remembered that once the zoo introduced baby tigers and they allowed visitors to take photos with the tiger. We stood in line and waited for a long time. I didn’t have enough patience to wait. But my father said it was a good chance for me to see and touch animals of such a close distance. Every time we saw animals, they were locked in a cage which looked like a jail. They just have a little space for them to live and to play. We always claim that we are friends to animals and we are willing to protect them. But the truth is if animals are living in the wild, can you imagine what would happen to them? The zoos that want to change the animals relationship with humans let visitors ride a car in the open wild zoo. I doubt that it has any help, but I hope we can do what we say. Many kinds of animal are dying out, some people may say that keeping them in the zoo is a good solution. However, everyone wants to have a free life. So I think the most important thing is to make our best attempt to protect the animals.

The pioneering project for human and the earth

In the article “We can save babies,” the author refers to Western countries that are grappling with a pioneering project which is not only saving babies but also saving the planet. They plan to build a lot of neonatal intensive care units (NICU), and at same time, they have to care about environmental problem such as carbon footprint and greenhouse gas. Recently, also the NHS has tried to reduce greenhouse gas and emissions by demand of governments. In conclusion, this new pioneering project will be helping babies; also, it will be protecting our planet. This pioneering project is good for the earth, and us and using the another phrase, it kills two birds with one stone. I agree with this grappling because it is efficient, has a multiplier effect, and leads to prosperous years.

First, I think this project is very efficient, because they try to save the lives of babies and protecting the planet at same time. We have to find a connection between the environmental problem and the other problems like this project. A long time ago, they didn’t care about environmental problems such as air pollution, sea pollution, emissions, and so on. They just pursued their benefit and money. However in recent trends, they try to pursue both benefit and green. Then, we can gain from the project and turn a profit in different fields. Moreover, if we could have good results from both fields, we will be able to contribute to human beings and the global environment.

Next, according to my first opinion, it also concludes a multiplier effect. The NHS is trying to reduce emissions now. So, If they build a lot of hospitals including NICU, we don’t need to worry about air pollution. In addition, if NHS can be successful in reducing greenhouse gas and emissions, we can avoid the crisis from environmental problems. Then not only can we save the planet, but also we can take care of our children more than at present, because there will be a lot of NIUC by leasing to each region, and also they will employ many staff. This phenomenon will affect the U.S. economy to lead demand-pull inflation, and U.S. economy will go up. Moreover, we can prolong babies of survival rates. I think this project will be wonderful for the earth and us.

Third, do you know the population rate in the world? We are moving on again society. It means declining birth rate. We have to hold this phenomenon carefully because it is a crisis of human beings. If the number of people has continued to increase, also, birth rate has continued decreasingly, even if we could succeed in protecting our planet, it would mean nothing without human beings. So, this project might lead us to flourish and save the global environment.

In conclusion, we should consider our future and our planet at the same time. Then we might find out new pioneering project which is good for both humans and the earth. It is going to be wonderful effort for both of them.

Life Changed in Small Town

There is a big difference between the small town I am living in now and the big city I used to live in. In a big city, communication and transportation are very convenient. But it is pretty busy, noisy and crowded on the street every day. People who live in the city often have a higher economic level in my country. So, most people prefer to spend time outside instead of staying at home, because there is lots of attractive entertainment, especially the night life. Therefore, a small town-Carbondale, where I am living, is exact quietness anytime and anywhere. There are few people outside day and night that; only happened in the evening in my hometown; it made me feel unsafe and pressured when I just arrived here. However, the environment is good enough in the small town. The air is fresh, the sky is blue, and the animals are free here, that is the huge difference from the big city. Of course, my lifestyle has been changed in the small town. It would make me mad to stay at home all day in my hometown, but here, I have to learn to keep myself quiet at home every day. I used to spend time in a bar or a club with friends, but not here because it makes me feel unsafe at night. Also, this place doesn’t have various choices of food as the big city dose.

Global Warming Causes in China

The global climate has been changed seriously. It shows obviously in my county. I remember that when I was child, the weather was very nice and fresh. We had four definite different seasons. There were three months for each season. It is enjoyable to see and feel the processing of changing the seasons. Every year, most people would like to expect the spring’s coming because the spring means bringing new things. That’s why we had “Spring Festival” in China. However, as global warming gets worse year after year, maybe we will have only two seasons or one season each year, because the climate is warmer than before. Also, in current years, we cannot feel spring’s coming anymore. Besides, we had snow every year and it was clean before. Therefore, seeing snow has already become a wish, because it is seldom. Even though it snows sometimes, the snow is dirty. In addition, summer is hotter now, and some people are suffering from the extreme hot weather in some areas of China.

Today the people is facing two big problems, first the lack of humanity and second the dependence of technology.
In reference to the first problem I think in ours days the people have lost values like the respectful by the family, the love for the other, the capacity to help others and the comprehension with other ways of mind or believes, the world does not have understood that the money is not the most important in the life.

The second problem is related to “the advanced technology” because we create it to resolve problems like processing speed, real time information and other but now we depend totally of the technology to work, to study, to talk with your friends and family, to share information and make any kind of relationship and I ask me: the Technology is the answer but What was the question?

If we put together the lack of humanity and the Highest dependency of technology we will found that many problems including the environmental problems are related with this because the people is more connected but is more far away one of each other. Although the technology has great advantages for communications it also has a great cost and it is the lost of values. To maintain this technology we consume the resource of future generations, consume a lot of energy, exploit people, create wars and destroy countries if you want to be someone you have to be in the NET.

In conclusion, for me is very important to use the technology but recovering the values lost and if it happens maybe some day we can understand how to be really connected but not with the Internet but also with the heart.

East Asia is known as an earthquake power all over the world, especially Japan. Some people might say that an earthquake is a natural phenomenon, but I think it is an environmental problem, because if earthquake occurred, it would lead to secondary disasters such us escaping of radioactivity and so on. That is why I want to talk about earthquakes in Japan. There are a lot of plates densely under Japan. Some geologists mention that a big earthquake will occur soon in Japan, especially in the Kansai and Tokai area where they located in middle of Japan. These areas have big join plates, and the most dangerous area in Japan. Recently, most people in Japan have begun to prepare for calamity. Also, we put a side emergency food, some money, flashlight, and so on. An earthquake is the most anxious thing in our lives. What do you think the major blocks or hurdles to really solving the problem are? I think we can’t keep back our life from a big earthquake. So, there is nothing we can do for our life. However, recently, by developing innovation, geologists can guess when earthquake comes, but it is not exactly right. Moreover, a consciousness of crisis management about earthquake has been increasingly common in Japan. Even though we can’t block a natural phenomenon, especially earthquakes, we might be able to guard against secondary disaster. It is very important effort to protect for environment of the earth.

Technology is very good because it makes things easier for man. You can use any machine and this can do things faster. Technology has made life comfortable in the way that people can take a rest while these machines are working for them. The world today works with technology and those who are not using it are outdated. You can see technology almost everywhere, for example, in airports, offices, schools, banks, etc, but technology depends on power. When for whatever reason the power is cut off, all of these places stop because they depend on technology. And everything starts to be like before. This is when people understand that technology has its advantages and disadvantages.

I think that technology makes things easier. You can have all your information in a database. You can connect to different parts of the world in a second through Internet or wireless telephones, but in the moment that power fails. That is the problem with technology. Global warming is a serious environment problem in the world. Many icebergs were melting in Antarctica which makes the sea level higher and higher. Shanghai, the biggest city of China will disappear in the future because of the high sea level. But this isn’t the problem for now. My hometown, Tieling is in the northeast of China. That is the coldest part of China. But in recent years, my hometown is not so cold as before because of the global warming. The special climate made people felt very strange. And the spring is much shorter than before. In this year, there is no spring in my hometown. My father told me that the spring is as cold as winter and then summer comes. And the newspapers said that there would be no more spring in my hometown, because of the global warming. I think this is the biggest problem in China. We’ll never have spring.

Global warming is the first environmental problem that we need to solve. The main reason that causes global warming is greenhouse gas, such as carbon dioxide, methane and so on. Recently, it is really serious for my hometown, Shenyang, China. My city is located in the Northeast part of China. It is cold and dry. Average temperature was 28 degrees C in summer and -25 degrees C in wintertime before. However, it has already changed; average temperature is 38 degrees C in summertime and -10s degree C in wintertime right now. Global warming affects my city a lot. The reason takes lots of problem, such as economic problem (because of rebuilding all the heat systems and so on), health problem. Furthermore, there are a lot of people, they cannot adopt the weather, they will get some disease and they will feel tired all day long. So global warming is very serious problem in my country, especially in my hometown, Shenyang.

Korea has four seasons having obvious characteristics. The spring looks green world, the summer is hot, the fall become colorful, and the winter is cold. ?For example, in fall, many trees turn red and yellow. So, many Koreans go to see the colored autumn leaves. Specially, Mt.Sorak is noted for the glorious tints of its autumn foliage. Because Korea’s season is so beautiful, we are proud of our change of the seasons. In spite of the pride of Koreans, we have an anxiety about the change of climate. As industry develops, we are influenced. These days, it is not difficult to find the damages. A few years ago, we had an earthquake. It was not strong, but most people could feel it. In Korea, because an earthquake is not common, many Koreans got a shock. Also, there was a big storm two years ago. It was almost a typhoon. This disaster caused many deaths. Many media reported that these disasters mean a warning of nature. Moreover, we have been undergoing change recently. That is, we are losing obvious characteristics of our seasons. Especially in summer, it rains too much. Also, the period is getting longer. So, Koreans worry that Korea is becoming a tropical region having high temperature and lots of rainfall.

Project of hospital about Green

In Medeleine Brindley's article, "Hospitals go green but can do more to ward off threat of global warming," the author says that in the UK, all main hospitals have tried chance to green energy. Moreover, they have radiated emissions as same as 32,000 home's them. National Health Centers (NHS) has to do hard for reducing emissions, but still NHS has a lot of emissions. However, the NHS has made progress with this effort, also, people in the UK agree with it. They have tried to change completely to green electricity, which is very efficient energy, the author states. Some hospitals use steam for heating, also, this is led good result for reducing global warming. In conclusion, the author mentions that this project isn't easy, but if this projec succeeds, it is going to reduce a lot of emissions.

Could this project lead to success for reducing global warming? What do you think about it? I think that only just this project doesn't have big force. But a lot of projects in the world such as this project would lead good change for the earth. I have another point of view that if this project is succeeded, many people might be interested in environmental problems.
First, the UK’s NHS reports this project only. However, If it lead to a good result, countries all over the world would cooperate with each other, and they might establish a big association for the environment of the earth. Then a big project for keeping the earth might lead to good effect, I hope. Next, these efforts make an impression on people who are interested in environmental problems. Moreover, people all over the world begin to have interest about environmental problems, it will be a huge force to protect the earth. If each of us try to take actions, it is going to be led bigger effects than the governments' projects. I want to expect it, also, I have to take action as soon as possible. In conclusion, if these projects spread all over the world, the earth will be good; also, life will go on with the earth.

Warning of Tornado

While the tornado was coming here, I was staying at Faner Hall. I always heard warning sirens on Tuesdays, but those were not sirens real sirens. However, I first heard a real siren at this time at Haner Hall. Moreover, we had to take shelter in a safe place which was a museum of Faner Hall. Many people gathered from some places, and they talked about the tornado. In addition, even American people here have never seen such a strong tornado in their lives. At this time, SIU held a graduation ceremony on campus. I think they must have gotten an unforgettable experience and might never forget their memorial day with the tornado. In Japan, we often get typhoons. However, a tornado is much stronger than a typhoon. Actually, I had a curiosity about tornados because I have seen it in the movies several times. However, in fact, it was so afraid from things such as no power, no gas, and so on. I do not want same experience any more. On the other hand, people attempt to recover rapidly, and they help each other. When I saw these sights, I was impressed. I hope Carbondale would be recovered as soon as possible. In conclusion, even though the tornado caused huge damege, we could learn many lessons through this experience.

In Stephen Leahy's article "Climate change", the author says environment of the earth has been changed dramatically toward worse. One secretary states that climate change has become worse, but we don't have interested in it since we issued the Montreal protocol. However, sensible approaches to the problem by some countries might have good opportunity toward environments. On the other hand, not only carbon dioxide but also greenhouse gas effects to the earth badly. By next 50years, ozone layer will be destroyed and ultra violet will cause serious problem for our health. However, chemical damage has been decreasing step-by-step because of technical innovation. Changing to HFCS might prevent global warming. Countries in all over the world find a solution about climate change such as exhaust of cars. Recently, environmental problems has been turned more serious crisis than the last 50 years all over the world. How do you think about environmental pollution? Do you have same opinion same as me? I think that environmental destruction is going up dramatically because when I watch news on TV, I often find about environmental destruction. This shows it is getting serious problem in the world. Serious problems in the world are air pollution, ocean pollution, and desertification, but people still don't come to a head yet, I think. We should have interest about our planet, which is the Earth because the Earth is beautiful, even mysterious.
First, I want to focus on air pollution. It is the worst problem because this problem includes all factors of environmental destruction. Moreover, a car is one of the necessaries of our life, but exhaust gas makes ozone layer to destroy. I think that both social developing and environmental destruction might occur at same time.
Second, oil tankers often cause miserable accident. For instance, every year, they accidentally spill millions of gallons of oil into the sea. It is going to be serious problem even just once. It effects to ecosystem strongly, and fish population is rapidly shrinking. In addition, from these facts, it might be occurred food crisis.
Third, also desertification is serious problem, especially Africa continent. It relates strongly with global warning. Also, global warning might connects air pollution. I think that all of these factors do interaction and fall into vicious circle.
In conclusion, governments all over the world should organize an association for protecting the earth. If they can do it, it is going to be caused good effect for environment of the Earth. Also each of us has to take actions what we can do for the earth. Therefore, if we can pay cloth attention to our planet, we are going to change slowly our nation for the earth. It is good way to protect the earth.

The warming problem in my country, Colombia, is becoming a serious topic for everybody. The main worry that people have is for the animals and the forest. This is because in Colombia since almost 60 years ago a war has been taking place in the entire country. The government has been paying big amounts of money in order to keep alive and save the citizens. Also the protection of the environment is an important thing that the government can’t afford. It is because the focus of the country always is the internal war. However, there are people interested in the safety of the environment, but the main point is that is so hard to do it. In Colombia there are some important areas where the forest, the jungle, the animals and species have a lot of diversity and this is being lost. The environmentalist can’t work in required areas, so it makes the global warming hit my country stronger. Santa Marta, my city, is a hot one, but it is fresh also in some seasons. Right now the heat is really intense in some hours of the day and it makes the people hide from the sun. In the beach sides, people should use sun protection lotions in order to not burn their skins. This is how my country is affected by the global warming and climate changes.

Animals

In our life there are different things, which share us in it, and we can’t enjoy life without them. Some of them have a spirit like us, such as animals or plants. And some of them are solid like houses or cars. We always protect our cars to work for a long time. But we never think about how we can help to preserve animal’s life. Wars, weather, water and lack of food, or hunters are some causes of extinction of animals around the world. I totally agree that animals need people who care to keep them a live and find many ways to stop losing them. To be one of those people you should believe that you will do it not because you love animals or they are cute and your kids feel happy when they see them, but, because you realize animals have benefits in our life, and they are entitled to be alive exactly as us. I think, even if any animal is ugly, ravenous, or people don’t like it, still it should get his chance to live. We need them in the life because they are one of the natural elements.

In my opinion, I agree with the statement that global warming has seriously affected the climate of my countries. Although the weather doesn’t change very greatly, just a little, it indeed causes some big problems in my country. For example, generally in Taiwan, the weather is hot and sometimes cool in the summer season. Even if some typhoons occur in Taiwan, still, it will not cause a big problem. However, since the global warming has happeded, the climate has already resulted in some damage to my country. For instance, now in Taiwan, the weather is getting hotter and hotter in summer. Besides, the routes of the typhoon have become very odd and strange. Most importantly, the climatologists can hardly forecast the direction of the typhoon. Sometimes the typhoon left, and then it returned again, but the typhoon coming back would become more serious. People could not have enough time to prepare well and to prevent the damage and then flood occurred. Therefore, the globing warming has actually affected the climte in Taiwan.
