EAP2

When I entered EAP2, I felt the hardest thing was listening. Because I am a new student, I never have had class to use full English in the U.S. I tried to figure out every words meaning, and react immediately. I appreciate that every teacher is kind and patient to me, and explains everything for me so that I can be used to the new class and condition. Now I feel better that I can know that the teachers said soon and do my job. Sometimes I feel the homework is much; I have to read and study too many hand sheets and find many articles to read to summarize those. However, I always tell myself that the homework in CESL is easier and less than the courses in SIU next semester. I have to be used to these works and do the best to let everyone know that I can afford those. I think the hardest thing is that I have to use my time successfully and effectively so that I can finish the homework in CESL well and prepare for the TOEFL in the same time. After a while, I think I can handle the all things right. I am used to doing the homework on time and, most of all, make my homework look wonderful and have nice scores on every quiz and test. But it is all almost done. I hope everything I did is good enough to prepare me to enter SIU.

The forest's nightmare-Illegal logging

Abstract

The topic of this paper is the problems and solutions of illegal logging in Brazil. It argues about the present problems and shows people how to solve and stop this situation. The first suggestion is that people should make up the environment damages we caused, and second is that the international governments have to stop the international trade about importing and exporting the timber from illegal logging. The third one is that Brazil government can assist residents to find other ways to make money rather than by illegal logging.

Fluency exercise #7

Food

American food is very different from Taiwanese food. It was special and delicious when I ate American food first. I like cheese, ice cream, and various steaks. American food is the best choice if I want to eat cheese cuisines, fries, or steak. However, it is too unhealthy for you to eat everyday. Cheese, some sweet snacks and fried food make our weight fatter and cause some diseases in our heart and blood vessels. I confirm that American food is yummy but I also have to care about my weigh. Taiwanese food has more variety than American food, because Taiwanese food not only has the area food but also includes different kinds of Chinese food. The materials in Taiwanese food are also more different and strange than American food. We use sea cucumbers, salted jelly fishes, and even have different preserved ham and so on. There are a lot of dishes that American have never thought of eating, but believe me those all are delicious. In Taiwan, we also have the night market. If you want to eat some traditional and causal snack, you must go there to try everything. Stinky tofu, oyster thin noodles and oyster omelet etc. are all the famous dishes and you can find them easily in the night market. I feel it is hardest for me that I can’t find this food when I miss Taiwan. I think either Taiwanese food or American food has it own advantages and I like them both. Moreover, they all gain my weight.

Fluency exercise #6

Vacation

My favorite trip is a deep delicious traveling. I like eating, and trying different cuisine. In different countries, they have their own special cooking styles because of their weather, products, or customs. The food reflects the country’s traditional living completely. I also like to see the traditional market; they are maybe not very clean but are noisy, but I can see the different and foreign scenery. It is a deep way to join the countries life. I know some organizations that have the classes to teach foreigners to cook the cuisine in a few hours in Thailand. I am interested in this activity. It is a perfect way to let me recognize this country. Moreover, when I cook in my home after traveling, I will remenber the country and its customs. I also think it can bring business opportunities for the country. Many people, like me, are interested in food, and not only in eating, but also in cooking. We value the experience when we touch the foreign cuisine. I hope I have time and opportunities to take the eating tour, even to the far and secret countries, like Morocco, Hungary, or India, and I think this is the best vacation for me.

fluency Exercise #5

vacation
I like to travel to anyplace where I have not been. So far, the place of my first choice to is Egypt. Sometimes I like to just to take a rest, and sometimes I like to explore. But if I can go to Egypt, I want to be an explorer. I want to see the pyramids, even enter the inside; I am not afraid of kinds of curses. I like the history of the Egyptian empire, the strong empire that disappeared quickly; moreover, I am interested in mummies. The people who lived thousands of years ago could figure out the way to build the structure and had enormous knowledge about medical science. How special the empire was. Of course, I want to eat the Egyptian native food. I like eating, and going to Egypt to eat the traditional food. If I have enough money I want to take the ferry just along the Nile river. I can get off where I want to walk around or where they have the remains. I like the place which is historical, which has many stories or constructions. So, Egypt is the best choice I think. Most of all, I think I should save money for traveling to Egypt.

Fluency Exercise #4

Wedding

Every woman wants to have a perfect, wonderful, and unforgettable wedding in her life. In my country, there are many special customs, but, in fact, many new couples don’t know them, and the parents teach them when they get married. Because the customs are too complex and detailed, many young and new couples change the ceremony to a simple style, like the western ceremony. In this day, a person that helps the people control and plan the wedding they want as a career appears, and we call them wedding planners. It is convenient for young couples to just tell the wedding planner what kind of wedding they want, use what color flower, hold the wedding in the church or hotel, because people are too busy with work even near their wedding date to handle many details but they still want the wedding perfect. If I have to plan a wedding for someone, I think the most important thing is that I have to know what the brides like and whose ideas I have to obey. I will list the schedule about time and progress, and then I will not forget something important. The most important element I think is collecting everyone’s opinions together and completely, including the bride, groom and both parents, because this wedding not only belongs to the new couple but also both families in Taiwan. Parents in Taiwan usually pay the most part in costs in the wedding, so you have to let them pay the money happily, and obey their opinions. Planning a wedding is not an easy thing, because you have to pay much attention in this. If I marry one day, I think I will find the wedding planner to help or organize it for me.

Fluency Exercise #3

Holiday
In Taiwan, we have many special and meaningful holidays. People like the holidays and enjoy celebrating them. We prepare food, join the actions for the public people, and families gather together. Moon Festival is the most important festival in the fall, and this particular holiday is about the timing. There are many festivals all about the sun and moon, because Chinese people depend on cultivation. People in China respect the weather and phenomena of the sky, so they celebrate the climate change regularly during the festivals. Moreover, on this day the moon is the most rounded in the whole year; it also means that the weather will become colder after this day. During Moon Festival, the whole family meets together and sees the bright and circular moon. Therefore, people eat unique cakes, moon cakes, and they have many flavors you can choose, like sweet, salt, and so on. Everyone likes eating and you can see the shop put different kinds up to sell. We usually sit outside, talk about anything, eat moon cakes and BBQ, and enjoy time with family. The Moon Festival is a festival that everyone likes in Taiwan.

Fluency Exercise #2

Technology
Every young person has his/her own way to communicate or show themselves with convenient technology. For example, some people have blogs to put up pictures, and to write articles to put up to tell people what they think. However, I think it has become more and more convenient to show yourself excessively and post some sex photo or aggressive articles, which brings some important problems. The problems are dangerous and can't be ignored. The Internet is really unsafe to put personal photos or information on. Some people think that they can look it up and keep a password, but there are many people who have the skills to test the password or destory the safe protection. The Internet is not safe anymore. When other people get your personal information, crimes of stealing the identity of other people make the society worse. On the other hand, everyone can post their different views on the public Web; it is easy to bring some fright and quarrel. Not everyone can receive the different viewpoints from us. There are also many gossips to distract the truth. People spend a lot of time in the untruth or talk about the unnecessary things. New techology makes our lives more convenient and give us more ways we can show our opinions. When we use these ways , we have to pay more attention to protecting ourselves and reducing the terrible accidents that take place.

Fluency Exercise #1

It's important to me that a characteristic of a good friend is friendliness. No one wants his/her close friends to be hard to communciate with; moreover, the kind person is popular with everyone. My close friend and I take care of each other and we are willing to spend time for each other. if I am sick or have trouble, my close friend can sacrifice her time to help me and give me help. I had a traffic accident, and my friend was worried about me and took care of me all day long. Some people are selffish; however, I don't think this a characteristic of a close friend. I think the close friend can give you a real recommendation and just want you to be in a better situation. Although the advice is too serious for me, my close friend still gives it to me and help me to solve the problem. Finally, whatever decisions I make, my close friend can always help me and go with me. We believe in each other do the best and the right thing. These are the characteristics of a good friend.
