Fluency Ex. #8

EAP2 Gives me Good Experience

EAP2 is the high class in CESL, so it has difficult curriculums. Because I skipped the EAP1 level, I think that EAP2 is so hard to me. However, EAP2 teachers are very kind and teach me generously so I could do my work.

In writing class, writing is difficult to me but Mr.Leverett, who is the writing teacher, gave me good a score so I could do my best. In Korea, I write the essay in Korean but in CESL I should translate my thinking. When I translate, I can’t exactly communicate what I mean. I also had trouble remembering the words. I didn’t memorize many words, so I should find the words. Nevertheless, learning Writing is good for me. Reading articles made me close with reading and improves the ability to read and understand. Writing helped me make sentence in English.

In Core class, the textbook is a little bit tough to me. It has lots of contents and there are lots of difficult and technical terms. So understanding the textbook makes me depressed. Speaking English also tough to me. Except me, my classmates are good at speaking, so communicating with classmates makes me nervous. However, Cheryl, who is the core teacher, encouraged me and her contents help me understand the textbook. Speed reading, presentation, discussion, and listening improve my English skills.

Abstract

Alternative plans for solving mercury pollution in the Amazon
The topic of this paper is making the counterplan to solve the mercury problem. The Amazon river is polluted by mercury from gold mining. The mercury contaminated fish and Amazon villagers. To protect the villagers and ecosystem, this paper argues for three suggestions. First, the government should stop using mercury. Second, they should make a limit on gold mining. Finally, they should invest in making other methods for gold mining.

Differences between Seoul and Carbondale (Fluency Ex.7)

Before living in Carbondale, I lived in Seoul in Korea. Carbondale is at leisure, whereas Seoul is complex. The public service in Seoul is better than in Carbondale. In Seoul, we can go out and look around the city without a car. Seoul is the capital city of Korea, so there is lots of sightseeing. Korea is smaller than the USA, so everything is situated closely. We can buy the goods by walking because there are many stores near the house. In contrast, there are little small stores in Carbondale.

However, there are similar things. The big market is concentrated in one area. The famous department stores are close to each other in Korea. In Carbondale, Wal-Mart, Dicks, U.Mall, etc. are focused in one area. The restaurants are in the mall. That means that almost all big stores have restaurants. The drinking places areclose to the university. There are lots of drinking houses near any university in Korea. Carbondale also has more drinking houses near the university.

My Favorite Movie (Fluency Ex.6)

I like watching the romantic movies. "If only" is a favorite movie which I watched. It describes about how a couple love each other.

The couple lived normally. The woman who wants a romantic love is violinist and the man who wants to success in business is a businessman. One day after fighting, she went out and died from a car accident and he saw that scene. The next day, when he woke up, he saw her and everything happened the same as yesterday. However, the man already knows how the woman will die. Then, he helps the woman to do what she wants. She made the song for him and he knew that she wants to sing a song for him. Then, after she played the violin in the orchestra, he made her sing a song with the orchestra in front of an audience. After that, he tried to prevent her death and he died instead of her.

I’m impressed because of their love. The power of love is marvelous. Even if the result was so sad, I realized the love is amazing. And I want to love like this movie. The movie touched me. I also like the song which was made by her and is named ‘Love will show you everything’. I believe that love can show me everything.

Fluency exercise #5

During vacation, I’ll go to New York with my Korean friend. New York is a big city in the U.S. and it can be called the center of civilization. There are a lot of famous monuments.

When I arrive in New York, I’ll go to the Statue of Liberty and Times Square. After looking around those, I’ll go to Broadway and 42nd Street and watch the musical. I will also go to the Madison Square Garden and watch the NBA. If I am hungry, I’ll go to the Korean town and eat a lot of Korean food. If I have enough money, I’ll go to the Woodbury outlet that sells discounted fine clothes and then buy a lot of clothes. I’ll tour the famous university like Harvard, Columbia, MIT, etc. Then, I can study hard because I realize that I’m too lazy. If I tour New York, I can see the big world and I can be challenged by the huge size of New York.

Fluency Ex. #4

When I see the destruction of the environment, I feel scared because I think that th earth will be destroyed someday. We make trash all day, and we always try to remove the trash without any effort of reducing. I think that we will make trash forever and we will get a problem because of the trash. So I look forward to creating a machine that can make trash clean.

In my opinion, after gathering the trash, I will set up what we need and the machine will make it. That means we make the new thing from trash. If it occurs, we can solve the trash problem. We don't have to worry about it.

However, most of all, the important thing is reducing the trash. I think we can make the machine but we should make efforts to not make trash.

Fluency Ex #3 (A Fall Holiday in Korea)

In Korea, we have Thanksgiving day which is called Chu-suk. The Korean Thanksgiving day is similar to the American Thanksgiving day but there are some differences.

When we think of Chu-suk, we always come across the full moon because the date of Chu-suk is August 15 in the lunar calender in which we can see the full moon. In the Chu-suk, the family gets along and greet each other. Because of busy work, we can’t meet each other, so meeting family is important during Chu-suk. Whenver Chu-suk comes, we wear the Han-bok which is made up of cotton or silk fabric. The representative food is song-pyon because we shape the dough for the song-pyon which is made up of rice cakes. After making it we steam it, then eat. It is so delicious that I can eat it all day long. When the night comes we go outside and make a circle and then we turn around as we sing a song.

Fluency Exercise #2 (Music)

I like music and dance because I can forget my stress. When I listen to the beat and rhythm, I can feel alive. Besides, I like to see the dancer who shows their ability with dance.

My favorite group is the Pussycat Dolls. The team is made up of 5 women, and they are very good at dancing. I like Nicole who is the leader of the Pussycat Dolls because she has a boyish voice, which attracts me. They design their postures very well. Their songs are never boring, even listening to them everyday. The "Beep" is an expressive song; that song's melody is a little fantasy. They pursue the sexy image, and I think their goal came true.

fluency Exercise #1

In Korea, many people suffer from yellowsand, which comes from China. That makes people have illness. The government has a plan, which is planting trees in China.

We have floods every summer. Lots of people lose their house and family. The government gathers volunteers to help the flood sufferers. Nowadays, architects design houses, which have no room on the first floor.

We have trouble with the red tide. That killed the fish. The fishermen couldn't earn a living because of dead fish. The government throws the yellow soil on the red tide.
